Perfect Solutions to Uninstall Google Keep for Desktop 0.0.9 for Mac The author did well on describing the events in the book.ĭexter was an eleven year old boy. I liked this book because it was a quick read. This was a good book because it had a historical event. I read the book I Survived the Joplin Tornado, 2011 by Lauren Tarshis. I was thankful the author included that subject as well. Tornadoes are horrific and create serious drama for children and adults alike, including in the aftermath. I loved that the author didn't skirt issues and that she presented it from the view of a child who realized that the amazing force of nature was maybe something he didn't want to see up close after all. This will always be a relative topic for our family as said tornado demolished our friends' home, killed their neighbor and which, in its weakened state hit the house we were in when she was almost 3. I think my favorite thing about the book was that it provided a springboard for discussion on the science and terminology of tornadoes and real world events-including some discussion of the Parkersburg tornado. It was informative enough and moved quickly enough to keep her mind occupied and pass the time more quickly as we awaited test results. I read the epub to my 10 year old as she sat in the ER. Enjoyed the opportunity to view the illustrations, adding to the richness of the narrative. As I was finishing the audiobook, a physical copy came across my desk at the library. In addition to the tornado story, there is information about being a Navy Seal as the main character's brother has recently gone through that training. I listened to this on audio and got to hear Lauren read all the end notes after the story. Having Lauren Tarshis write a book about the experience means so much to those in Joplin and the rest of the state, too. Our school also sent a group to help with cleanup. Although I don't live near Joplin, my husband and I were in the area the following year and the devastation was still very evident. We had heard the sirens and we knew they meant business. I remember sitting in the basement of our school library not long after this tragic day. After the Joplin Tornado, we definitely took note. Since I live in Missouri and grew up in Iowa, the tornado season is filled with watches and occasionally warnings about tornados. This is my favorite of the I Survived series so far. Don't have your own pine needles? Buy some! Leaves can make a good layer on top of a concrete base in the run. Adding more layers, particularly dried leaves (so creating a deep litter) can help.
